Rooted Spoon Culinary was started in 2010 by friends Dani Lind and Macon Luhning as a part-time catering business specializing in custom, local and seasonal menus. At the time, Dani had been the produce manager at the Viroqua Food Co-op for nearly a decade, developing the lasting relationships with many of the local farmers (she even marrying one of them!) that still supply the catering business. Macon worked for Organic Valley, first in their café and later in their marketing department, but he longed to get into his own kitchen (he had worked in commercial kitchens for 15 years before taking his first “desk job”). They juggled their day-jobs along with the fledgling catering business for almost two years, working out of various local rented kitchens, until the former Optimo Café space in downtown Viroqua became available for lease. They jumped head first, quitting their day-jobs and expanding the catering business to include their new space as an event venue complete with a liquor license, where they could play restaurant and bar when they weren’t busy with off-site catered events. In the fall of 2013, Macon and his family moved to Oregon, and Dani took over the business.
What started as a couple friends looking to start a little side business creating delicious meals with quality local ingredients has become a full time business for Dani and a team of wonderful co-workers who are also passionate about good food and drink. They now cater anything from weddings to conferences, fundraisers to anniversary parties, rehearsal dinners to annual meetings, and even beauty pageants, bar mitzvahs and bachelor parties. The quality of ingredients always stays top notch, and they love the diversity of the events they do and all the different styles of meals – from pizza parties to fancy 8-course dinners. There is never a dull moment.
Rooted Spoon Culinary offers a distinct style of catering featuring seasonal menus that highlight locally sourced and sustainably produced ingredients. We proudly support our local economy and showcase the renowned, high quality food of the Driftless Region by purchasing directly from area farmers, butchers and food artisans. Our menus are custom designed to fit both the season and our client’s taste with food that is handcrafted from scratch.
In addition to our off-site catering services, we also offer on-site catering at our event space, Rooted Spoon Kitchen Table. The Kitchen Table is located in beautiful downtown Viroqua, Wisconsin in the historic Viroqua Public Market.
